Exploring Economics is a community where people come together to talk about different ideas related to economics. You can get involved in different ways:
Why not start by watching some recordings of our events or reading our blogs? We host semi-regular discussion groups and social events, which are a great way to discover what we are about and what might interest you.
We’re looking for the following people:
Time: ~3 hours/month
You’ll help curate and deliver our programme of speaker events. This could include sourcing speakers, shaping panel themes, or chairing events. You don’t need to have the networks yet —just be curious and organised. Why this matters: You shape what the network talks about and bring diverse ideas into the open
Time: ~2 hour/month + prep
Lead a small monthly discussion. Choose a theme, share a short reading or prompt, and help guide the group. You don’t need to be an expert—just willing to listen and keep the conversation moving. Why this matters: You help create a space where different perspectives on economics are heard and respected
Time: Ad hoc (one-off or ongoing)
As a contributor, write a short blog on an idea, question, or challenge in economics that matters to you. As an editor, help others develop their voice and sharpen their arguments. Training and support available. Why this matters: You provoke reflection and invite others into the conversation.
Time: ~2 hour/month
Plan informal gatherings—walks, lunches, pub chats. Nothing formal. Just help people meet and talk. Choose something you’d enjoy. Why this matters: Networks and ideas need trust and friendship.
Time: ~2-3 hours/month
Spot opportunities to link up with other government networks or external thinkers. Help us work alongside others doing interesting work. Why this matters: You expand our reach and make sure we’re not an echo chamber.
Time: 1 hour a month min
Not sure what fits yet? Join the committee and try things out. You’ll join a small, friendly group experimenting with how to make economics more plural and accessible across the civil service. Why this matters: You help set the direction and get stuff done.
